At the Cottage with Zrinka Jelic

Welcome to the cottage, Zrinka!

It's a lovely day outside, so please take a seat on one of the comfy chairs on the front deck, overlooking the lake.

Tell us a little about yourself.
Zrinka Jelic lives in Ontario, Canada, with her husband and two children. A member of the Romance Writers of America and its chapter Fantasy Futuristic and Paranormal, as well as Savvy Authors, she writes contemporary fiction—which leans toward the paranormal—and adds a pinch of history. Her characters come from all walks of life, and although she prefers red, romance comes in many colors. Given Jelic’s love for her native Croatia and the Adriatic Sea, her characters usually find themselves dealing with a fair amount of sunshine, but that’s about the only break they get. “Alas,” Jelic says, with a grin. “Some rain must fall in everyone’s life.”

Let’s talk about writing and books.

What does your writing space look like?
A couch and a laptop on a TV table.

What do you like to do after finishing a manuscript to reward yourself?
Spend some much needed time with my family, take the boys shopping and McDonald’s.

What can we expect from you next? Are you working on anything new?
Of course, my WIP is a romantic comedy with working title The Wedding Date, it’s one of them fake dates that turns to be quite real.

Now, let’s get personal!

What is one goal you’ve yet to reach?
More than 8 years after the birth of my second child I still struggle to lose my “baby” fat.

What is one obsession you possess?
I’m bound and determined not to deteriorate with years. I’ve seen many people (men and women) that only started exercising later in life and are in best shape of their lives. My plan is not to spend the last years of my life in and out of hospitals. I’ll workout until I die.

What are your hobbies away from the computer?
Yoga, step classes, weight training, gym.

Are you an animal person? If so, what do you have?
I’m a huge animal lover and a big cat person. However, I’m also highly allergic and cannot have any pets. Therefore, I donate to animal shelters, tried volunteering but lasted some 15 minutes and walked out of there sneezing and wheezing.

None, One or Both.

Tattoos or Piercings?
Only pierced ears, but can’t remember last time I wore earrings.
Paperback or eBook?
Prefer paperback, but can’t argue with the convenience of eBook.
Twitter or Facebook?
Facebook, though I have both.
Tea or Coffee?
Coffee, but love herbal teas.
Wine or Cocktail?
I’d go with a cocktail
Early Morning or Late Evening?
Late evening all the way
Optimist or Pessimist?
Something in between. Trying to stay positive.
Chocolate or vanilla ice cream?
Neither, lactose intolerant
Spaghetti or Pizza?
Trying to stay off carbs so neither, but fall off the wagon every now and then.

Describe yourself in three words.
Funny, helpful and inspiring.

Thank you for visiting, Zrinka! It’s been great getting to know you. Please stop by the cottage again soon!

Where can we keep in touch with you?

Here's a peek at Zrinka's book,
Rose of Crimson
Kate Rokov’s grades are plummeting. She needs to get the voice out of her head, or she will flunk her finals. Matthias Zrin, a three centuries old immortal, born into an aristocratic family as Miles Rusinic, is enthralled with Kate. It is his voice preventing her from sleeping and her ignorance is testing his limits. He wants her to write down his story to settle his late wife’s Earthbound spirit. His tragic love story has become Kate’s obsession since fifth grade during her summer trip to Rusinic Castle. Their coming together settles the old spirit and breaks an ancient curse and, in doing so, a flame spanning over three centuries reignites and burns with wild desire. In this tale of two life times and desire versus emotional need, both know some dreams will have to wait for the right time, but the magic between them is impossible to withstand.

  1. Thank you for hosting me on your blog today. It is always exciting to visit new places and reach out to new readers.

  2. Enjoyed the interview. Zrinka, your name is so beautiful, and your story sounds so mysterious. Sorry you can't be around animals, but so nice of you to donate to those who can.

  3. I'm a little latte, but wanted to thank you again, Zrinka, for the fun visit. I can relate to your goal and your obsession :)

  4. I loved both the book and its prequel. Well worth the read.
