Author Interview - Helen Henderson

Today, I am happy to welcome to The Author's Den, Helen Henderson, with a fast five question interview.

Name a wild animal you’d love to have as a pet.
Hands down, the answer is a dragon. Wait, they’re not allowed where I live so let’s explore other options. A tiger gets too big for a short person like me to handle and they’re not allowed in the neighborhood either. A red-tailed hawk is relatively small, it can keep the mice and vole populations down, and when it wants to fly there are plenty of fields nearby it can soar over. So a hawk it is.

Name a sport you are terrible at.
Although I’ve been known to watch skiing and the occasional stock car race, I’m not really a sports person. I have tried a few outdoors activities over the years and loved horseback riding. But the question is a sport I’m terrible at. Even though I only tried it once, golf gets the nod.

Name a place where you’d be mortified if your cell phone when off.
A funeral. No explanation needed.

Name something you force yourself to do even though you love it.
This question needed some contemplation. In the end it came down to decorating for the holidays. Most of the ornaments have a special meaning either of the person who made or gave them or reminders of trips taken. Once they are up the family enjoys the lights and the tree. However lugging boxes of ornaments, lights, and wreaths down from the attic is not as bad as taking down the decorations. The trimmings never seem to fit back in the boxes. I blame it on the decoration gremlins.

Name something you do when you are home alone to pass the time.
Read… read… and did I say read? Unless the computer is turned on, then I alternate a couple of games spider solitaire with reading an ebook. And if my eyes are bothering me, maybe a little painting, needlework, or other handcraft.

Let's get to know a bit more about Helen...

Although the author of several local histories and numerous articles on the topics of American and military history, antiques and collectibles, my first love is fiction. My work in the museum and history fields enables a special insight into creating fantasy worlds. The descendent of a coal-miner's daughter and an aviation flight engineer, my writing reflects the contrasts of her heritage as well as that of her Gemini sign and my stories cross genres from historical westerns to science fiction and fantasy. In the world of romantic fantasy, I am the author of the Dragshi Chronicles and The Windmaster Novels. I invite you to join me on travels through the stars, or among fantasy worlds of the imagination.

Let's take a peek at Helen's new book, Windmaster Legend
available March 17, 2019

A forbidden love. An impossible quest. Threats to life and career. If love survives, there is one more challenge—the accusation of witchcraft.

Fate conspired to keep Iol and Pelra apart. Friendship is allowed between members of competing trading houses, but nothing more. He loves the sea and wants his own ship. She hates the deep blue and has worked too hard to allow her dreams to be sidetracked by the lure of magic. Despite a beautiful woman on his arm every night, Leod wanted the one he couldn’t have—Pelra. His kin on the ruling council did more than put him on the fast track to his own ship. It provided him the power to fulfill his desires, or to ruin those who refused him.

Exiled to distant posts, given impossible challenges, and subject to Leod’s machinations, Iol and Pelra only have the hope of a future together to sustain them. But can their love survive the accusation of witchcraft?
