Karilyn, please tell us a little about yourself.
I love the names of your dogs!
When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?
Does the 4th grade Nancy Drew-like book count? If not, then when I was in my early thirties. That book is occupying a spot in the closet never to see the light of day. But I finished it. And then went on to write several more.
I read many Nancy Drew books :)
Where do you get your ideas?
Sometimes from news articles. Sometimes by people watching. Other times by asking myself, "what if".
I am a big people watcher too, lol.
Do you work with an outline, or just write?
I have to have the beginning and where the story needs to end. Other than those two points, I just write. But for The Shadowheart Curse, the director had to approve the synopsis and I wrote off of that, which was a new experience for this pantser!
I bet you aced it.
Tell us about your current release.
I'd love to! The exciting thing about The Shadowheart Curse is: it's going to be made into a movie! I was asked to write the director's idea (more about that later on) about a ghostly romance. The plot centers around a medium who goes to her family estate in Italy only to find a cursed ghost on the property. Will she be able to save him from his curse, or will he be lost to the shadows forever?
Sounds interesting! I will have to add it to my reading list!
Who designed the cover?
The wonderful cover artists at The Wild Rose Press.
They design awesome covers.
How did you come up with the title?
The director/producer had some ideas and I picked one. Then I had to pick another one after he found out that title was already in use. I am really bad at coming up with titles, so I was glad he had suggestions!
Help with titles is good to have.
What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
I really enjoyed writing the whole book. It was a different experience for me to write to someone else's idea. What I enjoyed was trying to make it a little creepy and unsettling without straight up scary scenes.
Creepy and unsettling sounds a little scary, but in a good way, lol.
This book is part of The Deadly Ten series. Tell us more about this series.
The series is the brainchild of Full Moon Productions. They have several different film series that they wanted to make into ten different movies and each movie has its own book. I was asked to write one of the books. My book is a ghost romance, but the rest of the movies are horror.
How awesome for you to be included!
So let's get to the good stuff. This book is being made into a movie. I am so excited for you! Can you share more news with us?
Thank you! It's really exciting! As stated in the previous question, this book is part of the Deadly Ten series. You can go to https://deadlyten.com and sign up to watch the movie being made. Yep, they're going to livestream the making of the movie. Originally the filming on The Shadowheart Curse was to start in August but it's been pushed back to September or October. I can hardly wait to see the characters come to life!
I will definitely check it out!
What’s your guilty writing procrastination secret?
