Monday Mood - Tired of Winter

Anyone else tired of winter? After a cold but sunny Saturday, Sunday was milder, but snow fell again last night. I realize it's February, and we  have over twenty days left, but it's been such a cold and snowy winter, I'm done. Bring on spring. Milder temperatures this week! Fingers crossed it starts to melt the foot of ice in the yard.

One Write Word - Passion

This week's one write word is PASSION. This above quote speaks the truth that having passion for something can fill you with energy. If you don't have the passion then you lose the power and excitement. This can apply to any project you take on in writing and/or life. Fuel your life with passion.

February Book Haul

After reading two of Jennifer Crusie's books back-to-back because both were great reads, I wanted more. So, two weeks ago, my daughter and I visited our local bookstore. I found Don't Look Down, and while searching the shelves for more, I found a stack of books by Jennifer Weiner. I've read her books before and the cover of Best Friends Forever drew me in.

The next day, I visited my brother and sister-in-law and she is a big fan of James Patterson. She has everyone of his books. She convinced me to try his Women's Murder Club series. Well, I read 1st To Die in less than a week and I have to admit, I'm hooked! I started 2nd Chance this morning.

My weekend book haul seems like a strange combination of Chick Lit and Murder Mystery, but obviously my reading genre is expanding. Unfortunately, the two Jennifer books will have to wait while I dive further into The Women's Murder Club series.

Speaking of unfortunate matters, I won't be posting as much over the next two weeks. I made a promise to myself to finish my current writing project by the end of February. Which means I need to focus solely on that. But I will try to get my #onewriteword posts slipped in.

What is your favourite reading genre?

Cherry Red Reader Review February 6, 2025

This book review arrived this morning. N. N. Light's Book Heaven gave Cherry Red 5+ stars! What a way to start my day! Here's a copy of the full review...

Carly may be the fire chief’s daughter but Noah vows to melt her icy heart. Fire and ice combine in this steamy romance. Cherry Red is a sizzling fake boyfriend/secret relationship romance I couldn’t put down. This story is character-driven and these characters stole my heart. I like Carly for her independence, her feistiness, and her passion. Noah may be a firefighter but he's all heart. The romance is a delicious blend of tropes with emotion, flirty dialogue, and a happy ending.

Darlene Fredette has penned a realistic romance set in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The setting becomes a minor character thanks to the immersive writing. The dialogue is another reason why the writing is superb. Snappy dialogue including sparring between the hero and heroine moves the story at a fast pace. Funny, emotional, flirty romance makes Cherry Red a joy to read.

There isn’t a single thing I don’t love about this romance. If you’re looking for a short read but fully developed, take my advice and read Cherry Red. Perfect for Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day, or any day of the year.

My Rating: 5+ stars

One Write Word - Laugh

I don't get political on my blog as I know everyone has their own strong opinions on such matters, but I decided to make an exception, mainly because of the chaos and worry that risen since January.

Millions of Americans voted an idiot to be their president. Frump (yes, that is not a typo) won thanks to his billion-dollar minions who's egos are almost as huge as his. Frump is creating chaos not just with Canada and Mexico, but with many other countries. He thinks everyone will bow to his knee and do his bidding, but what is really happening is that everyone around the globe is laughing at him. We all know he is unhinged.

Yes, there are border and drug controls that need attention, but if you look at the 'actual' border stats, the higher numbers are coming from the US! And where does Frump think all the illegal guns showing up in Canada are coming from...his country!

Canada is not for sale, nor will we ever become the 51st US State. Canadians are proud and strong! That's all I have to say on the subject. Oh, one more thing... If you don't like my political view, that's too bad. It's my blog and I'll post what I want. Bye!

Today's one write word is LAUGH because we all need a little break from the chaos and worry.

Paperback Books

I've been professionally reviewing books for Still Moments Magazine for over twenty years. While I enjoyed most of the books I've read (and loved even more), they were chosen by the magazine. The magazine receives so many book review requests that they still have books in their reading queue from the past couple of years, which I will unfortunately never get to read as there are just too many. They are all eBooks, but sometimes I want to read a paperback book.

So, a few months ago, I went to a local bookstore and picked up these two books by Jennifer Crusie. I finished Crazy For You last week and started Tell Me Lies this week. Ms. Crusie is a master storyteller. Her stories are interesting, laugh-out-loud, and page-turners.

It's nice to pick up a book (physically) and not worry about finishing the read by a deadline. I see a return (very soon) to the bookstore to get a few more books by Crusie and a few other authors.
