Christmas Message 2017

With the house decorated, the tree up and twinkling with presents scattered underneath, as well as the shopping done and gifts wrapped, I'm looking forward to a few days of doing nothing! My daughter and I still have gingerbread houses to make and Christmas pies to bake later this week, but that's not a chore as we have lots of fun.
Don't expect to see me until after the holidays. I have a good supply of hot chocolate and eggnog, as well as a few Christmas movies waiting to be watched.  I have the pillows fluffed, my fluffy socks on, and my warm blanket ready to snuggle into.
But before I disappear from social media, I wanted to share a quick story about a few classic Christmas cartoons.

After watching a Hallmark Christmas movie last week, I was flicking the channels on the television and stopped on Rudolph and the Misfit Toys. My daughter and I watched a few minutes of this cartoon, even though we've seen it several times over the years. I picked out a few scenes that were not so nice. In one scene, Santa was upset with the elves for playing Christmas music, and in another scene, Santa growled at Rudolph for blinding him with his bright red nose.

Wow, I do not remember those parts when I watched this show as a child and with my daughter when she was a child. Then my daughter and I recalled a few scenes from other classic cartoons that don't fit with today's politically correct views.

Today, the Grinch would be charged for animal abuse for forcing Max (his dog) to wear antlers and to pull a heavy sleigh. He would also be arrested for the many B&E's of all the houses he broke into and stole from. He also approached a small child and gave her a drink of milk. Cindy Lou sure fell asleep quickly after drinking that milk.

Today, Charlie Brown's friends would be accused of bullying. They really gave that poor boy a hard time. Lucy would be charged for stalking Schroeder, and while Peppermint Patty had a crush on Charlie Brown, she'd be made fun of because of her less than lady-like demeanor. Kids would snicker when they'd see Linus holding his blanket, and someone would call social services on the parents of Pig Pen for neglect. That boy needed a bath.

Today, Scrooge would be charged for work misconduct. Bob Cratchit worked like a slave and got paid very little. Scrooge would also be institutionalized for believing three ghosts visited him.

These are just a few scenes I picked out that scream with misdemeanors, lol, and I'm sure there are many more from the old classic Christmas cartoons. But today's society is beyond overly focused on political correctness. People would prefer you say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas". Well, bah hum bug to that! I will still watch those cartoon classics and enjoy them as much as I did as a child.

And I will be ever-so unpolitically correct and say...

From my family to yours, wishing you a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year!

  1. Things are changing so quickly...technology and opinions of what is or is not politically correct..A movie made only 10 years ago is already outdated. Wonder what the next 10 years will look like. Happy holidays,Darlene.
